A mile of spring-fed Blanco River with CCC-built stone pavilions, swimming, and $5 entry — small-town Texas at its easiest.
Blanco State Park is small, old, and exactly right: one mile of spring-fed Blanco River running through town, framed by stone pavilions and picnic shelters the Civilian Conservation Corps built in 1933. Swimming is allowed anywhere along the park's stretch, with a shallow wading pool by Falls Dam for the under-five crowd.
Everything about it is low-effort. Entry is $5 (kids 12 and under free), you can fish from shore without a license, the park lends rods, and tube or paddle outings launch steps from the parking lot. For wedding guests staying near Blanco or Johnson City, it's the hour-long outing that doesn't jeopardize the hair appointment.
Like all Texas state parks it now runs on advance day-pass reservations — book online before driving over, especially on summer weekends.
